From Pittsburgh to Seattle, adaptive cycle and handcycle rental programs are available across the US. Countless of people with disabilities have had adaptive cycling improve their lives. We know however how expensive handcycles can be. Here is a list of where you can rent a handcycle, or for those who cannot afford one, where you can rent one instead.

WA – Outdoors for All
Located in Seattle, Washington, Outdoors for All has over 200 adaptive cycles. They offer free use of their handcycles at their Lake Sammamish Adaptive Cycling Center during the summer that’s not far from Seattle. It’s open seven days a week (10am – 6pm). They also offer handcycle rentals that cost between $35 – $45 dollars per day.
WI – Wheel Fun Rentals
If you are visiting Milwaukee, Wisconsin, you can rent a free handcycle at Wheel Fun Rentals located Veterans Park South, on the Lake Loop section of the multi-use Oak Leaf Trail.
PA – Adaptive POGOH
Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Adaptive POGOH is the city’s premier adaptive bike rental program. Only open between late May to late September, they offer rentals for 2 hours on Wednesdays through Sundays.

MA – All Out Adventures
In Northampton, Massachusetts, All Out Adventures, a nonprofit that provide outdoor recreation for people of all abilities, offers handcycle rentals on a sliding scale rate. The subsidized daily rate for a handcycle is $22.50.
MI – Norte Youth Cycling
Located in Traverse City, Michigan, Norte Youth Cycling has their Bikes for All program; a program that offers adaptive cycling training. If you have a disability, you can have access to their Adaptive Bike Library, which lets you borrow a bicycle from their fleet of adaptive bicycles.

OH – Upcycles Bike Shop
Locating Cleveland, Ohio, you’ll find Upcycles Bike Shop that offers handcycle rentals and handcycles that are available for purchase.
OR – Adaptive BIKETOWN
Located in Portland, Oregon, Adaptive BIKETOWN rents adaptive cycles, including handcycles to anyone in the city with a disability. If you have a disability, you can have access to their discounted prices, where you an rent a handcycle for $5-$7 per hour.

CA – BORP Adaptive Cycling Program
Located in Berkeley, California, the BORP (Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program) Adaptive Cycling Program has been offering people with disabilities the opportunity to try adaptive cycling for decades. They offer handcycle rentals on a first come, first served basis. A “onetime ride fee” is $20. They also offer monthly passes.
FL – Broward County Parks and Recreation
If you’re in the Broward County area of Florida, where major cities like Ft. Lauderdale in Hollywood are located, you can rent a handcycle through Broward County Parks and Recreation. They offer two handcycles that are available for free on a first come, first serve basis located at Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium.
NY – Achilles International Adaptive Cycling Program
Located in New York City, the Achilles International Adaptive Cycling Program offers free use of handcycles from May to early November. If interested, you must sign up first and secure a reservation.
NY – AdaptAbility Adults
Located in Brooklyn, New York, adaptability loans handcycles free of charge to people with disabilities.
NV- City of Reno Adaptive Cycling Center
Located in Reno, Nevada on the Rosewood Nature Study is the City of Reno’s Adaptive Cycling Center and adaptive equipment rental hub. Here adults with disabilities can rent adaptive bikes by appointment or during open hours. Their biking center is open from May to September and to rent a handcycle, a one time fee is $30 otherwise you can purchase a seasonal membership for $100 for unlimited rides the whole season. Scholarships are available for those with financial barriers.
WY – Wheel Wranglers
Located in Jackson, Wyoming, Wheel Wranglers offers rental of a Top End Excelerator XLT handcycle for $59 today. They have two in their fleet.
AZ – Arizona disabled sports
Located in Mesa, Arizona, Arizona Disabled Sports offers handcycle rentals to anyone with a disability who is able to pay a $30/month fee.
NH – Northeast Passage
Located in Durham, New Hampshire, Northeast Passage offers their Equipment Rental Program where they offer adaptive equipment rentals for a variety of sports, including handcycles. A $40 first-time consultation fee is required. After that, you can schedule a reservation. They offer rentals from one day up to two weeks.
MN – Courage Kenny Sports & Rec
Located in golden valley, Minnesota, the Courage Kenny Sports & Rec program offers a small fleet of handcycles, which can be loaned out to people with disabilities, but only after they’ve attended three group rides.
