“Go Stags” is a chant Tim Strachan heard often as the starting quarterback for DeMatha Catholic High School, a premier boys high school in Maryland. At 6’3, 215 lbs with a “spectacular arm,” he was going to be Penn State’s next quarterback.
Everything however changed his senior year. While at Bethany Beach, Tim broke his neck, becoming a C5 quadriplegic. Tim however returned to high school, and to life, with a fierceness he hasn’t lost since. Read on for his story.
Why He’s Fearless
After high school, Tim went on to graduate from the University of Maryland with a degree in Communications. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he was accepted to Georgetown University Law School in 2001 and graduated 3 years later.
After graduation, Tim was hired by the FCC for the Office of Legislative Affairs to be an Attorney Adviser, working as a liaison between the FCC and Capitol Hill. In 2017, Tim was promoted to Director of the office as lead attorney liaison.
But law isn’t Tim’s only passion. Tim never forgot his love of football and went on to become an announcer for the University of Maryland’s football team. He took the job while he was a student at the school, and continued to do it for another 22 seasons, leaving in 2017.
What’s Next?
In 2004, Tim married his longtime girlfriend Leslie. They went on to have twin daughters, Sophie and Olivia Hope, who are now grown. Tim has also gone on to share his story of overcoming adversity to audiences of all kinds – from elementary schools to major corporations – through his presentation, “The X’s and O’s of Life”.
