There was never a time in Kebra Moore’s life when she wasn’t entertaining the world in some way or another. An Amazon best-selling author (under the pen name Midnight Storm), gospel singer, motivational speaker and Ms. Wheelchair Mississippi 2013, Kebra knows a thing or two about how to move on after a spinal cord injury.

And on top of that, she knows how to do it with style. She spearheaded a program to help newly injured women realize they’re still beautiful. Also married for over 20 years and a dedicated mother of two sons, read on to learn about the soulful Kebra Moore.

Why She’s Fearless

Born and raised in Beaufort, South Carolina, Kebra studied musical education at Claflin University, where she received her BA in 1997. After graduating, she went on to study her master’s degree in Jazz at the University of New Orleans, receiving her masters degree in 1999.

But 1999 also turned out to be the year her life would change, when on Christmas Eve, she was in a car accident, becoming a T12 paraplegic. Kebra knew her life would never be the same, but was determined to not give up on her music career.

In 2007, 8 years after her injury, Kebra decided to focus solely on gospel. In 2010, she released her debut album, “Kingdom Understood,” and the single, “Beautiful,” that touched on an important topic many women with spinal cord injuries experience – feeling beautiful no matter the image society likes to tell us is beautiful. The video appeared on the B.E.T. Another single from the album, “Troubles,” was nominated for B.E.T’s Music Award for Best Gospel Song and Video. 

Not to skip a beat, another track off her album, “He’ll Make a Way,” was chosen to be part of the soundtrack for a documentary on President Barack Obama, Becoming Barak. Kebra next released her sophomore album, “Under the Influence,” in 2012, and in 2013, she recorded a video for her single, “Never Let Him Go,” with Chelsie Hill and company part of the video.

What’s Next?

Now living in Texas, Kebra’s life changed once again in 2019 when she decided to become a full-time novelist after her youngest son graduated from high school. Her first novel was titled, Love, Lies & Music. The book is a sensual, a romantic comedy featuring multicultural characters asnd went on to become an Amazon bestseller. She also wrote the Tropical Storm Stories, which were shorts she wrote to her spouse while he was deployed in Iraq.

Nothing is stopping this full of life lady. Also a full-time mother and wife, Kebra is the very example of what is possible after a spinal cord injury.
