After spinal cord injury (SCI), men may have difficulty ejaculating. There are two reasons why they might want to do this - for sperm retrieval to become a biological father, or for sexual pleasure (orgasm). Penile Vibratory Stimulation (PVS) can help. The higher amplitude and frequency of vibration when placed on the penile glands can promote ejaculation so that sperm can be retrieved, and possibly, some form of sexual pleasure. However, there are safety concerns that should be noted, like bladder or bowel incontinence, and autonomic dysreflexia - a dangerous spike in blood pressure possibly accompanied by fever, sweating, headaches and other symptoms.
Watch this video to learn more about how to do PVS safely and to learn about the Sexual Health Rehab clinic in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
