Nick Scott is a legend in the world of wheelchair bodybuilding. Also a motivational speaker and wheelchair ballroom dancer, he’s gone on to become a many you’ll never forget. Also a global promoter of wheelchair bodybuilding, Scott is a believer in the power of fitness. Read on for his story.
Why He’s fearless
While in high school in 1998 at age 16, Scott was injured in a car accident, sustaining a T12-L1 injury. When he was first injured, he suffered from chronic pain and had weight issues. He gained weight post-injury, weighing nearly 300 lbs 1 year post-injury.
But after working on walking (he can walk short distances), Scott got the workout bug and decided to focus on improving what he could — his body. Doing bench presses, he dropped all the weight within a year. Over the years, Scott went on to become of the most elite wheelchair bodybuilders in the world and has represented big names such as Bodybuilding.com, Muscle Farm and Pro 10.
To date, Nick has competed in hundreds of wheelchair bodybuilding competitions and he’s a several-time world wheelchair bodybuilding champion. He’s known for chair tricks he throws in at competitions as well, like his “crew” changing his tires as he poses.
In 2009, Nick met Aubree Marchione, a famous able-bodied ballroom dancer. She persuaded him to try wheelchair ballroom dancing and within 2 years they were the undefeated #1 wheelchair ballroom dance couple in the US. They also represented the US for the first time in history of the World IPC Wheelchair Dance Sport Championships in 2011. In 2015, he and Aubree danced for the Pope.
Also in 2011, a film on his life, Perspective: The Nick Scott Story, was released. The documentary won Overall Best Film at the 2011 Arnold Schwarzenegger Film Festival. And he wrote an autobiography, Journey, sharing his winding path post-injury and discovering his passion for bodybuilding. His autobiography spurred him to create even more content, and he created bodybuilding training videos, like this training video he released in 2012, Unleash the Beast.
What’s Next?
Wheelchair bodybuilding has continued to be an even bigger part of his life. Since 2014, he has been the Chairman of the Arnold Classic Pro Wheelchair and he’s the Olympia Pro Wheelchair Director. And Scott has become a successful motivational speaker. He speaks at schools, colleges and businesses all around the world. He’s spoken in 8 countries and 48 US states since 2005.
