Next to walking again, the ultimate goal of everyone with paralysis is to make the world see us and not our wheelchairs. And Dr. David Card, a family practice doctor from Bellevue, Washington, has not only made this happen; he’s an expert at it.
With his renowned bedside manner, intelligence and professional reputation far outweighing the fact that he’s paralyzed, read on to learn about Dr. David Card.
Why He’s fearless
Growing up in the small town of Everett, Washington, David was your average athletic kid, and he grew to love sports even more so in his teens where he played baseball.
When he broke his back as a passenger in a car accident, his entire life changed. Life as he knew it, all fun and no worries, was no more. He had to grow up quickly, but he took to the required changes like a champ. He didn’t even take any time off from school and graduated with his class in 1987. He was already showing signs of the personality traits required to be a doctor.
And that is what he did. David knew he wanted to be a doctor at a very early age. After graduating from medical school at Nova Southeastern University and completing his residency, David landed a job as a general practice family doctor at US HealthWorks in Bellevue, Washington, a healthcare company with clinics throughout the state.
Over the years, Dr. Card has become a favorite doctor of many (with online reviews glowing). Perhaps he’s a great doctor because his spinal cord injury has opened his mind and heart up to the softer side of who he is, making him the perfect family practice doctor.
